Saiku 2.4 arrives with some pretty big changes!

So Saiku 2.4 has arrived, and what is new I hear you ask? Well quite a lot actually.

The usual bug fixes and tweaks.

  • Folders and Permissions in Repository – You can now create folders and set permissions on files/folders in the repository (saiku standalone version).
  • New Result Option (Hide Parents) – This feature lets you decide if you want to show parent members or not.
  • Conditional Formatting (from schema.xml and MDX) – Use conditional formatting options as part of the Mondrian Schema Definition or within a MDX query.
  • New Excel Export – The Excel Export has been reworked and is now much faster and includes more useful information.
  • Navigational Context Menu – A new context menu for the result table in saiku’s DnD mode allows you to quickly navigate through your data.
  • Other small improvements – Explain plan for queries, respect visibility flags of OLAP objects, select multiple measures in drillthrough …
  • And we’ve decided to swap to the Apache License.

The what? You say.

After months of umm’ing and ah’ing and many arguments with community folk, and many conversations with other community folk who plain didn’t care. We have decided to move the Saiku plaform in its entirety over to the Apache license.

What this means for people wanting to use our software is that it does not require modified versions of the software to be distributed using the same license, so this is great news for people wanting to ship the Saiku platform with their own product as they no longer have to make modifications available to the world.

We did this because we see such a demand for embedding of analytics into 3rd party applications and we want to be able to enable people to do this as easily as possible. It also fits better with our ethos, and means we don’t have to explain our weird split licensing model to people any more (thank god).

The Apache license is permissive, so basically do what you like with it! We love to hear success stories from clients who have successfully embedded Saiku into their application to serve whatever purpose, and hopefully this move will enable people to achieve this more easily.

But, as ever, just because we’ve made it easier for people to embed Saiku into their applications, doesn’t mean that we don’t need to make a living. So as ever if you need any extra features, consultancy or support with Saiku then please get in contact with our sister company Meteorite Consulting. Also we are currently putting the finishing touches to our commercial offering that will offer a number of addons to help make our platform more scalable. Before people start getting their nickers in a twist I would also like to point out that the commercial offering will not have any added Saiku features in and we shall not be crippling the platform in any way, this is just our way of making commercial customers lives easier and more details will follow shortly.

So, now you have no excuse whatsoever for not including Saiku Analytics in your project!

Trout, out.
